What to see in Inverness, Scotland

When planning our road trip through Scotland, I knew Inverness would be one of our stops as it’s the gateway to The Highlands! I started to research what to see in Inverness and started to get really excited about our stop here.

Culloden Moor

Our first stop in Inverness was to Culloden Moor Battlefield. This is a staple in Scottish History, it’s where the Jacobites lost their battle against the British. The museum was really interesting, and it was a very somber experience. I’d definitely recommend a visit!

Loch Ness

A trip to Inverness would not be complete without a stop at the famous Loch Ness. There is even a little museum about the monster! It makes you feel a bit eerie haha. It would be cool to rent a canoe or go on a boat tour but we didn’t have the time to do that. We ended up being able to go to the banks of the shore by the castle. We saved some sand for our ornaments we make!

Urquhart Castle

This almost gone ruin was once a castle! Urquhart Castle has a crazy history and we loved learning all about it! This was a beautiful morning but it started raining HARD for a solid 20 minutes! But then it cleared up and was absolutely beautiful right as we were leaving! This was also the only time we encountered midges (mij-ees)! They are these little annoying bugs that apparently come out in Scotland in the summer, but mostly out in the mountains. But they found comfort under our umbrellas here at the castle.

Explore the City

We drove by Inverness Castle which I wish we would have had time to explore! It looked really awesome. Our air bnb host made our reservations at the Loch Ness Inn for dinner. I was a little skeptical it sounded a little too “touristy” but it was really good! My favorite food we had in Scotland! And driving and walking around the neighborhood it was in was so cute and fun. Plus, the drive up to our air bnb was all along back roads, it was nothing short of magical. Then we just enjoyed our bnb and the sheep next door. It was so charming! Dave loved flying the drone over Loch Ness and the neighborhood.

Where to Stay

We stayed in the cutest little Air Bnb, here! It was actually pretty close to Urquhart Castle but in the suburbs, it was really cool! We went up and down winding roads and the last set of instructions said something like, “turn left at the blue trash bins” haha! I loved it. No road signs to get to this place. Our host was really sweet and we had the best views.
