Isle of Skye: Day Two Itinerary

Day two of our Isle of Skye Itinerary was my favorite! We packed a lot into one day and did a lot of driving. But it was well worth it. We started the day at our BnB in Dunvegan, you can read about our first day here, and got up early and got going. We didn’t get to our BnB the night before until about 6 pm, had we made our plans earlier (read more about our last minute change of plans here), I would have planned to see Dunvegan Castle and Claigan Coral Beach the day before with the Neist Point Lighthouse just by sheer geography of the matter. And to spread our days better. I don’t regret what we saw, but by the end of our second day on the Isle of Skye, I was SO tired!

Isle of Skye Itinerary

Dunvegan Castle

Our first stop of the day was Dunvegan Castle. If we would have gotten to the Isle of Skye and up north earlier in the day the day before I would have lumped this with what we did before! It was worth seeing for sure, but it just added to our day! We weren’t “supposed” to take pictures inside the castle but we snuck a few in! :) The grounds and inside the castle were equally as beautiful. I love museums like this, they have awesome artifacts and stories but it’s more of an experience than just walking through halls!

Claigan Coral Beach

This white sand beach in the Scottish Highlands was really neat to witness! I say, witness because I didn’t QUITE make my way all the way there. Haha. Please remember I was six weeks pregnant. Not only was this the most tired I’d really ever been, but hunger and nausea struck with a vengeance whenever the heck they wanted to. In fact, I got so unexpectedly hungry, when we had to backtrack to get back on the main road, we had to stop at Dunvegan Castle to get some food in me quick! So we made it quite a ways and I saw the beach from afar and I pretty much called it quits. That was enough for me and baby for the moment. Dave flew the drone over it all and that’s ok! I gotta take care of me! But if you go, others were playing in the sand and having a blast! We really lucked out with the weather this day!

One lane roads throughout the entire Isle of Skye! But they do have these “Passing Place” signs where the road gets wider. We really only had a couple of incidents where it was a bit sketchy. But other than that it was fine!

Fairy Glen

This was really the only sketchy part when it came to driving! With it being only one lane, it was hard because you had to go down this big hill to get to where we needed to go. On the way out, we were heading up when two cars started coming down. We’re in this manual car and we had to back up down the hill and let them pass! Dave handled it like a champ but I was way nervous!

Anyways! The Fairy Glen was worth the stop! It’s right nearby the Port of Uig. I was first drawn to visit here because a lot of pictures show some “spiral stones” and I thought it was some cool old druid legend about fairies and whatnot. Turns out tourists keep placing the stones in spirals and then the locals take them down — haha!! It was really cool nonetheless. The place is unique with lots of little and big hills and a huge waterfall in the distance. We loved our time here!

The Quiraing

The Quiraing was my absolute favorite stop. If you plan your day right, you can cut through the mountains when you’re coming from the other side, instead of driving all the way up the coast and back down. It’s a great shortcut! But the mountains aren’t very scenic and you are on a one-way road the whole time so you end up pulling over for the other cars a lot. But when you come out of the pass, THIS is what you’re greeted with. To say it took my breath away would almost be an understatement. Which is true for a lot of Scotland, by the way. Nowhere is as green as the Isle of Skye, you can barely describe it!

Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls

This was one of the quicker stops we made throughout the day. But you can see some of the rocks look like pleated kilts, where Kilt Rock gets its name! There is not a done to do right here besides take in the beauty. I laugh when I think about this place though! My mom went to Scotland about a month before we did, so we spent a lot of time talking and helping each other plan our trips. While she was there she sent me an email and called it, “Pleated Skirt Rock” hahaha. I’m not sure why but it made us both laugh so hard!

The Storr

This stop is really what makes me wish we could have done the first couple of stops the day before! By the time we got to The Old Man of Storr, I was straight up beat. I think even if I wasn’t pregnant I would have been tired by this point! My hips hurt and I really didn’t want to do much but get out of the car for some pictures and drone shots. Not that I’m much of a hiker anyways, but getting up close to this beauty would have been really cool!

Portree Harbor

Let’s just take a minute to appreciate how absolutely adorable this little harbor is!! I’d seen pictures and knew this would be a really cute spot to announce our pregnancy with the pink and blue walls! It was Sunday, so a lot of shops were actually closed. But walking around the town and getting some good pizza made for a fun time still!

Waternish

We rented this Airbnb to stay in at night, and we loved it! It was about 45 minutes from Portree, but August is also the busiest month in Scotland, so book what you can as early as possible! I would have loved to stay a little closer but that’s only because I was so dang tired.

On our way to the house, we got a little lost and just enjoyed the sunset and the scenery. I normally would have felt more stressed but we’d just had the most amazing day, and taken some of the cutest pics to announce our baby! This sunset was the perfect way to end the perfect day.
