I had a really incredible experience competing in Opportunity Quest this year! Not only did I get to compete, I WON! I was so shocked and couldn’t believe they called my name, but I’m not going to lie, I kind of killed it! Maybe someday I’ll post some presentation tips for you ;)
I’ve been really involved with the entrepreneurship center at WSU over the last couple of years and when I started I had the idea for Waverley Design Co. but I finally started to work on it within the program. So i’ve been able to be an ambassador and help with a lot of events as well as take the minor and learn A TON in those classes.
So this year I decided to put Waverley to the test! I applied for Opportunity Quest and to my astonishment I was chosen to be in the top five and actually was going to be presenting in front of a panel of judges! I had been working on Waverley all of fall semester in class and had even taken a couple of clients but this felt like the first big step for my company!
Anyways, I worked my tail off and really put together a great presentation, showed off to the judges for ten minutes, they asked me questions which I was able to answer, and then they gave me a HUGE check!! It was exhilarating and fun and SO much work but it was so worth it, even without winning. The experience was so cool and I really felt validated with my business and where I was headed.
My sweet husband is seriously so supportive–how did I get so lucky?? I worked so long and painstakingly long on my presentation. He probably listened to it ten times!!! But he showed up and supported me, because he’s seriously the best. But my mom, dad, brother, and father in law showed up too!! I felt like a rock star having a little cheering section of my own!
