The Sanctuary at Baha Mar
The Sanctuary at Baha Mar had an experience where we could feed turtles, pet stingrays, and sharks while we were in the Bahamas! It was really cool! I loved using this underwater housing for my camera! I was so timid to use it but little by little I got more comfortable dipping my camera in the water!
One thing I loved both here at The Sanctuary at Baha Mar and the Atlantis aquarium is that you can tell that the people love their native animals. They’re not scared of them and they’re very proud to be helping with the preservation of the animals as well as education about them.
The Turtles
They were really friendly and being that close to a turtle was so cool! We’d seen turtles while snorkeling in Maui, but there were a lot more all together here, and we could actually feed them! It was really cool to see them blow the water out of their nostrils and how fast they could swim.
The Stingrays
I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that I was kind of timid with the stingrays! I’d love to say I was hyped to do everything, but I can be kind of a scaredy cat, haha! Any huge animal kind of gives me the willies. And it was HUGE! Ha! But after a minute I got in and enjoyed it. Do you know when you hear that animals can sense fear and tenseness? Yeah, that always makes me way tenser! It’s so hard to relax when an animal knows you’re scared!
The Sharks
Again, I was a bit timid to get in! We let the boys go first and I pet one to the side before getting in. Then once I was in I was enjoying myself! We had to stand close together so the sharks wouldn’t swim between us which kind of freaked me out when it happened a couple of times. This dang shark started coming after me!!! It was all fine and dandy until he was bumping me with his nose and then I was outta there, ha! I ran away pretty quick! The workers were both laughing at me! But getting that close to a shark was intense for me! Overall, the experience was really cool and fun! Even though I was kind of scared at first, they made me feel a lot more comfortable than I thought I would have been!
