Where to Eat in Portland

I would honestly go back to Portland just for the food. Every single meal was so good, I never felt hungry. The vibrant city life let us stay out late and want to explore different parts of the city, and the food was the perfect way to do that!

Sometimes I have a hard time planning where to eat while traveling because I’m all for convenience so location matters a lot. Also, having too many choices can dampen the experience as well. Since we were in Portland for a wedding, we didn’t have a ton of other plans. So luckily we didn’t have to plan around that! But there are tons and tons of GOOD choices in Portland.

I had done a little bit of research beforehand and talked to a couple of people where they liked. Of course, some people give the all too popular, “Voodoo Doughnuts” answer. But we’d already been there on our last trip and I was more concerned with where I was going to be eating meals and not getting treats.

For unique and good ice cream:

Salt & Straw

You have probably heard of this place! And it lives up to the hype. However, don’t go at night unless you don’t mind an hour wait. We pulled up to the 23rd St. location at about 8 pm with the line wrapped around the building. We opted out that night and went the next day to another location at about 2 pm and had hardly any wait at all! They are famous for their lavender ice cream and other unique flavors.

Ruby Jewel Scoops

The night we decided not to wait too long at Salt & Straw I was still craving ice cream! So we went to Ruby Jewel not too far away and it was really awesome! They had unique flavors as well and I’m not one to complain about ice cream by any means ;)

For a really good burger:

Little Big Burger

I am a burger girl. I love love, love burgers. But I can hardly finish a huge one! This was PERFECT for me! It was just greasy enough to make it so good, but not make me feel bad. The fries were awesome, and they had fry sauce that specifically said, “This aint made in Salt Lake City”, which as a born and bred Utahn makes me happy that 1) they’re calling it by the right name and 2) acknowledging that we invented that heavenly sauce.

For awesome tacos:

Por Que No

Oh, my word. Best tacos! Worth the wait outside the building. Each taco made me want more, the sauces were amazing, the quesadilla was incredible, and we loved the vibe! It was so good, I went back and ordered another taco for each of us. It was a slow-paced afternoon for us and we just enjoyed the food and talking for a while. Dave loved his steak and pork tacos and I absolutely loved my fish tacos.

For the best sandwich:

Grilled Cheese Grill

I think everyone in life just wants a good sandwich. Whatever that looks like to you, I think that can make you happy. The Grilled Cheese Grill delivered. I really enjoyed my grilled cheese with pesto and veggies, but David’s Grilled Cheesus was the bomb. Seriously I still think about it all the time. Turns out what’s missing from your hamburgers, is two grilled cheese sandwiches. Then we also shared a banana, Nutella, cream cheese sandwich. Just trust me, you need to eat here.
